"No watermark" — here's exactly what that does and doesn't mean
This phrase gets used loosely everywhere, including by us, so let's be precise about all three things people mean by it. Two of them are true here. One of them is not true anywhere, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something.

Two different checkerboards get mistaken for a watermark. The grey-and-white grid behind a transparent PNG is your viewer drawing the empty pixels — it is not in the file. And a faint grid or woven texture inside the picture, in clouds, foliage, hair or behind dense text, is a quality artifact from the model, not a mark anyone stamped on. One commenter on the launch thread put it correctly: "It's not a watermark, Nano Banana also has SynthID and does not have this issue."Neither one is something a tool can strip out for you, because neither one is a mark in the first place.
