  • A handcrafted miniature diorama of London built around Big Ben with tiny shops, lamps and a red phone boxMiniature world, one landmark

A whimsical handcrafted miniature diorama of London built around Big Ben. A cosy tiny world at its feet — cobbled street, red phone box, lamp posts, a newsstand, benches, autumn trees. Soft daylight, shallow depth of field, a small brass plaque reading "LONDON" at the front.

  • A giant white police rescue robot wading through a flooded street, towing lifeboats of evacueesConcept render, machinery that reads

A photorealistic concept render: a giant white-and-black police rescue mech wading down a flooded city avenue, towing two orange lifeboats of evacuees by cable. Rain, grey daylight, traffic signals and shopfront signage still legible above the waterline. Documentary framing, no motion blur on the machine.

  • A candid golden-hour photograph of a young woman walking down a quiet tree-lined streetPhotography, not photo-ish

A candid smartphone photograph of a young woman walking slowly down a quiet tree-lined residential street at golden hour. Medium-length chestnut hair in a loose half-up style, an oversized shirt and a shoulder bag, an iced coffee in one hand. Backlit with a slight lens flare, natural skin texture, no retouching.

  • A four-panel character sheet of the same woman photographed front, three-quarter, profile and from behindSame person, four angles

A four-panel character sheet of the same woman on a seamless neutral studio backdrop: front, three-quarter turn, full profile and rear view. Terracotta wide-leg trousers and a matching top in every panel, soft even lighting, identical framing and proportions across all four.

  • A dark emerald watch advertisement with an oversized gold wristwatch and the masthead TIME set across the topEditorial ad, type inside the frame

A vertical luxury advertisement shot in a dark emerald studio. An oversized gold-cased wristwatch fills the right of the frame with a model in a green field jacket leaning against it at the left. The masthead "TIME" runs across the top in gold serif capitals and the brand line "AURELON — SWISS MADE" sits small at the lower left. Editorial lighting, no other text.

  • A full desktop landing page for a design studio in Simplified Chinese, with a navigation bar, hero, case grid and footerA whole landing page, one frame

A complete desktop landing page for a creative design studio, written in Simplified Chinese, drawn flat and front-on with no perspective: a navigation bar, a hero with a headline and a photograph, a three-up services row, a case-study grid, a call-to-action band and a footer. Bold flat blocks of blue, yellow and red, a real type hierarchy, legible small print. No lorem ipsum.

  • A black and white typographic poster reading MODEL.STORE above an eight-line spec listTypography, and nothing else

A black-and-white typographic poster. The wordmark "MODEL.STORE" set very large at the top, the strapline "NINETY-ONE MODELS. ONE BALANCE." beneath it, then an eight-line spec list in small monospaced type. Newsprint texture, one column, generous margins. Every line legible, no decoration.

  • A Spanish physics textbook page on electromagnetism with numbered figures, equations and captions in small typeFigures, captions, folio

A single page from a Spanish-language physics textbook, chapter seven, on electromagnetism. Two numbered figures with captions, three short sections of body text, one boxed equation, a running head and a folio. Warm off-white paper, one accent colour, eight-point caption type that stays legible.

  • Eight glossy enamel pins with polished gold outlines overlapping in a collage on a dark textured boardMerch sheet, eight pins, one style

A hyper-realistic enamel pin collection on a dark textured board, eight separate pins overlapping in a loose collage. Polished gold-metal outlines, glossy hard-enamel fill, subtly raised edges and one soft specular highlight per pin. A portrait pin carries the name "MIRA" and a small tag below it reads "CREATIVE". The same light on all eight.

  • A black and white one-page manga about space development, six panels with hand-lettered balloonsSix panels, one character

A one-page black-and-white manga about space development, six panels read right to left. Screentone shading, hand-lettered speech balloons, a wide establishing panel at the top and a close-up at the bottom. The same character in every panel. No colour.

  • A luxury travel poster for Santorini with a whitewashed street, blue domes and a gold serif headlineTravel poster, headline and deck

A premium travel poster, portrait. A whitewashed Santorini street descending to blue domes and the caldera at sunset. The headline "SANTORINI" in gold serif capitals at the top, "Greece · Island of Dreams" beneath it, four lines of deck copy at the lower left. Editorial photography, warm evening light.

  • A vintage travel postage stamp for Japan with a pagoda, a bullet train and small perforated captionsSmall type, eight times over

A vintage travel postage stamp representing Japan: Mount Fuji and a pagoda as the focal point, surrounded by a bullet train, cherry blossom, a torii gate and a beckoning cat. Perforated edges, aged paper, a franking mark reading "JAPAN POSTAGE" and a small caption under each element. Muted printed-ink palette.

Four upgrades, in plain language

What got better in GPT Image 2.5

OpenAI’s announcement lists four. Here is what each one changes once your images are a job — and all four are live in the generator above.

Try these on your own prompt
  • The same child, same face and same pose, restored and re-dressed by GPT Image 2.5
A creased studio portrait photographed off the printed card, colour faded

    01Reference fidelity

    Your subject survives the trip

Hand it a reference and your subject arrives in the new scene still recognisable — same face, same label, same finish. The product in the ad stays the product in the box.

One of five before-and-after pairs published by OpenAI

It understands what not to change

Change one element and the composition, subject and brand treatment around it stay put. Higgsfield's Head of Product: "how well it understands what not to change."

  • The same woman after the edit chain, wearing three supplied garments, her face, pose and the gallery behind her unchanged
A woman photographed in a museum gallery
    SourceAfter the chain

    03Multi-turn consistency

    Edit chains hold up longer

Long chains hold together where GPT Image 2 came apart. A developer in r/codex: "after 2–3 edits the image was often unusable… This seems much better now." Improved, not solved.

On by default in every edit here

Four things GPT Image 2.5 does here that ChatGPT will not

Not our tagline — a paying ChatGPT user wrote it out explaining his refund. All four are in the generator above, on the free tier.

  • The uploaded illustration — a character in a white blouse and red skirt, drawn flat
    Your file
The fourth edit of that file, rendered photographically — the same costume, ribbons and pose, recomputed from the upload rather than from edit three
    Edit #4

01Every edit starts from your original

ChatGPT re-edits its own last output and quality falls away by the second pass. Here, edit #4 is computed from the file you uploaded.

  • The source — a character in a teal jacket, white shirt and black tie against a plain field
    Source
The same character moved into a car interior with the jacket, tie, belt and gloves unchanged, because those were the ticks
    5 ticked

    02Keep-Intact checkboxes

OpenAI's guide says to write "change only X" and list what must survive. Almost nobody types it — you tick five boxes instead.

  • A labelled cellular respiration diagram, the run that came back from gpt-image-2.5-flare
    flare
The same prompt returned by gpt-image-2.5-sunburst — near enough identical to the Flare run that only the printed model ID separates them
    sunburst

    03The model ID, printed

ChatGPT will not tell you which model drew your picture. One prompt, two models — look at these two and try to pick. Every result here carries the exact model string the API returned.

  • The original fashion croquis — a blue top and a pleated green skirt drawn in gouache
    v1
The runway photograph rendered from that croquis, stored beside the drawing rather than replacing it
    v2 · both kept

    04Nothing you make gets overwritten

One image, replaced irrecoverably by your next retry — that is ChatGPT. Here every run is a new row you can branch from.

Six jobs, six working prompts

Six jobs people are actually using GPT Image 2.5 for

Six jobs, and the sentence that makes each one land. Every card loads a working prompt into the generator, settings already dialled in.

  • A GPT Image 2.5 film poster: wide serif title across the top and a six-point billing block along the bottom, every line legibleQUOTE THE TEXT · HD vs ULTRA

    Posters and packaging

Layouts where the headline and the small print both have to read. Quote every rendered word, then compare HD against Ultra before you commit.

    Infographics and diagrams

OpenAI names infographic accuracy and layout as a specific gain in 2.5. Check the labels, not the look — draft at Standard, re-run the winner at HD.

  • A five-panel GPT Image 2.5 studio editorial of one man, the face, hairline and expression identical in every panelIMAGE TO IMAGE · TICK FACE & IDENTITY

    Portraits from a photo

Carry a face into a new era, wardrobe or style. Identity, pose and expression hold; only what you named changes.

  • The same kitchen before and after GPT Image 2.5 swapped the dining chairs — light, window, cabinets and camera position untouchedTHINK · KEEP LIGHTING & FRAMING

    Iterative product edits

Change one thing — the chairs, the label, the bottle — and the light, the framing and everything you didn't name come back exactly as they were. Sunburst is the tier built for the fourth revision, not the first.

  • A twelve-frame GPT Image 2.5 sprite sheet of one crow in flight, the same silhouette and palette in every cellREFERENCE FIRST · THEN RESTATE IT

    Storyboards and sequences

Build one reference frame first, then name its defining details again in every new scene. The repetition is the instruction, not padding.

  • A line drawing of a river valley beside the photorealistic GPT Image 2.5 render built on its exact layoutSTRUCTURE REFERENCE · not style

    Sketch to finished image

Draw the layout, then let the render fill it in. Say the sketch is structure, that the perspective holds, and that nothing new is added.

Half of these are a pair — what went in, and what came back. The prompt on a card is the recipe for that job rather than the caption for that frame, and no frame on this page is used twice. Want the whole tool rather than one prompt? text to image writes a picture from a sentence, image to image changes one thing in a picture you already have, and sketch to image turns a drawing into a finished render.

What OpenAI still lists as unsolved in GPT Image 2.5

Precise text placement can miss. Character and brand consistency across separate generations can still drift. A higher quality tier does not guarantee a better result — OpenAI says so, and so do we before you spend Max credits.

Anything on this table that stops matching OpenAI's documentation, or what the image generator on this page actually accepts, is a bug. Tell us and we'll fix the page.

The one number that surprised people

GPT Image 2.5 at Standard costs a quarter of GPT Image 2's medium tier. The founder of 12ui.com: "about 2x faster and 1/2 the cost of the old 2 medium."

Each row says what changes for you rather than which model wins in the abstract. Sample images, prompts and per-item scoring live on the comparison pages, linked from each row; the generator is the same one at the top of this page.

How credits work

A standard 1K image is 6 credits. Draft 3 · HD 24 · Ultra 42 · Max 96. Doubling the resolution doubles the credits; editing adds 4, covering up to four reference images.
You are never charged when a run fails, times out, is blocked by moderation, or — on Pro — visibly ignores a Keep-Intact tick. That last one is a free retry, three a day.

  • 7-day refund, no questions, if you've used under 50 credits
  • Failed and blocked runs never cost credits

2.5 is the first model to genuinely improve on every test I throw at it… Flare medium seems to be the sweet spot and it's about 2x faster and 1/2 the cost of the old 2 medium.

Asked in the launch threads

GPT Image 2.5 image generator: the questions people ask

Sixteen answers, and two of them do not flatter us. Cost, the free tier, commercial rights, and what the receipt under each image is for.

Is GPT Image 2.5 out?

Yes. OpenAI released it on September 8, 2026 as ChatGPT Images 2.5 in the product — most people type it ChatGPT Image 2.5 — and GPT-Image-2.5 in the API. It's available on every ChatGPT tier including free, and you can use both API models on this page without an account.

How much does GPT Image 2.5 cost per image?

About $0.013 for a 1024×1024 image at medium, $0.053 at high, and $0.211 at max, based on OpenAI's $30 per million image output tokens. Cost scales with resolution and quality, not a flat per-image fee. Batch requests are half price. Here, a standard 1K image is 6 credits — roughly $0.05 on Pro.

Does GPT Image 2.5 still have the checkerboard artifact? The part other pages skip

Yes, and OpenAI's "cleaner output" line does not cover it. Within 24 hours of launch, nine people across r/ChatGPT, r/OpenAI, r/singularity and r/codex reported the faint woven texture is still there.
Clouds and gradients — still visible on GPT Image 2, Flare and Sunburst alike. "It's still really noticable in clouds and plants." (r/OpenAI, 14 upvotes)
Grass, foliage and hair — mostly unchanged, though some report better hair on Sunburst. "It seems to still have that checkerboard pattern in my tests." (r/ChatGPT, 25 upvotes)
Between lines of dense text — the worst case, on both models. "The checkerboard effect behind text and other patterns is horrendous." (r/codex, 19 upvotes)
Three things help, and they are OpenAI's guidance rather than our finding: HD and above on flat subjects, PNG output, and the fewest edit rounds you can get away with.

Is the checkerboard the same thing as a fake transparent background?

No, and people mix them up constantly. A grey-and-white grid behind your subject is fake transparency — the model painted a checkerboard instead of writing an alpha channel. A faint weave inside clouds, grass, hair or between lines of text is the compression-like artifact above, and nobody has beaten it yet.
Neither is a watermark. OpenAI embeds C2PA metadata and an invisible watermark; neither is a visible texture, and nobody — including us — adds a pattern to your image.

How do I know if I'm using GPT Image 2.5 and not GPT Image 2?

Inside ChatGPT you can't — the built-in tool doesn't reveal the model. Here, every result prints the exact model ID the API returned (gpt-image-2.5-flare or gpt-image-2.5-sunburst) along with quality tier, size and generation time, and you can open the raw API response to check it yourself.

Flare or Sunburst — which should I pick?

Start with Flare if GPT Image 2 already met your quality bar; you'll get comparable quality at half the latency. Start with Sunburst if GPT Image 2 fell short on something complex, then test Flare with the same prompt and drop down only if quality holds. That's OpenAI's own migration guidance. One caveat they state explicitly: the same quality label doesn't mean the same thing on both models.

Is GPT Image 2.5 free? Do I need a ChatGPT account?

No account needed for your first image here — one free GPT Image 2.5 generation a day, no login, no card. Inside ChatGPT it's available on every tier including free, subject to the usual message limits. Via the API it's paid by token. The exact daily caps, what the watermark is, and where commercial rights start are all spelled out on the page covering what "free" actually covers.

Is there a GPT Image 2.5 AI image generator I can use online, without installing anything?

This page is one. The generator runs in the browser you are reading this in — nothing to install, nothing to configure, no API key and no waitlist. Type a prompt in the box at the top, pick Flare or Sunburst, press Generate, and the receipt under the result names the model that produced it. The first image each day costs nothing and needs no account.

Is there a watermark?

Two different things, and people mix them up. Ours: free images carry a small visible corner mark; every paid plan removes it. OpenAI's: every output from GPT Image 2.5 carries C2PA metadata and an invisible watermark. That one is embedded by the model, isn't visible, can't be removed, and shouldn't be. Separately — the checkerboard texture people complain about is not a watermark, it's an artifact.

Does GPT Image 2.5 support 4K and transparent backgrounds?

Both, and the second one has a catch worth knowing. Native 4K at 3840×2160 and 2160×3840; anything above 2560×1440 is flagged experimental by OpenAI. Transparent backgrounds are native on both 2.5 models and the panel's Background chip asks for one — it needs PNG or WebP, since JPEG has no alpha channel, and it is a Starter unlock. A transparent run travels by the direct API rather than the gateway we use by default, whose record for these two models lists auto and opaque only. The catch is the model's, not ours: asked for transparency it will sometimes paint a grey-and-white checkerboard instead — a picture of transparency rather than transparency. Open the alpha channel and check, and put "no checkerboard" in the prompt.

Can I use GPT Image 2.5 images commercially?

On any paid plan here, yes — commercial rights are included and stated in your plan. Free images are personal use only. Your usage is also governed by OpenAI's terms, so if you're doing something regulated, read both.

Why do my edits change things I didn't ask about?

Because chained editing compounds. Each round re-encodes the previous output, and drift plus artifacts accumulate. An OpenAI community moderator recommends going back to the original for each attempt and combining changes into one prompt. We do that automatically: every edit is recomputed from your original file with your requests merged, and the Keep-Intact checkboxes list what must not move.

Is GPT Image 2.5 better than Nano Banana Pro?

For precise editing and subject preservation, GPT Image 2.5 made real gains and Sunburst currently tops the Image Arena boards. Nano Banana Pro doesn't show the checkerboard artifact that 2.5 still has. We're publishing a 10-prompt head-to-head with every file and parameter shown rather than picking a winner in a sentence.

Can it keep the same face across edits?

Better than GPT Image 2, and better still if you help it: build one reference image, pass it as input each time, and tick the identity checkbox. OpenAI still lists cross-generation consistency as a limitation, so a reference sheet beats hoping.

Why is ChatGPT's image generation slow or limited for me?

Free and Plus tiers have message limits, and complex prompts can take up to two minutes to render regardless of tier. We're not OpenAI and can't change your ChatGPT Image 2.5 quota — but the image generator on this page runs the same models through the API with its own queue, so it isn't affected by your ChatGPT limits.

Is GPT Image 2.5 the same as GPT Astra or Gemini 2.5 Flash Image?

Neither. GPT-6 Astra is OpenAI's text model — it trended alongside this launch, but it doesn't make images. Gemini 2.5 Flash Image is Google's, and it's a completely separate model family. If you landed here from one of those searches, this page won't help you, and we'd rather say so than keep you reading.
